We had a
First-Aid course at work today, because we got an automated external
defibrillator (AED), you know one of those where the doctor gives a electrical
shock to the patient when their heart isn't beating. Well, we had to learn how
to use it today plus normal First-Aid. During this course we had a heated
discussion about what people do during a "crisis", almost all of us
had experienced a situation where there were people who would just stand and
look at this person who was having a heart attack maybe.
I can't
comprehend how it is possible to stand by a person that you can see needs help,
but you don't do anything to help. They don't even call 911, or maybe bring to
someone else's attention that this person needs help. It's sad
that we live in a society where someone can collapse in a crowd and it will
take 20 minutes before there is any reaction from the surroundings. There is
so little required, you only have to call 911 and stay by the person. The
operator will tell you what to do and send help.
I hope
you will all take that little amount of responsibility it takes to make a call
and save a life.
